Fainthearted | Episode 1

It is exactly 00:48 and I am still looking at the watch on the wall like it owes me answers, he is still not back and his phone goes straight to voicemail. I was angry but more worried than angry, what if he has died or he is hospitalized. I start panicking and my mind keeps telling me to call his mother, but I don’t want to worry her over this, I will just wait a little bit longer.

My wine glass begins to warm up, I haven’t been paying much attention to it since I have been battling with thoughts of my husband laying somewhere in a ditch, lifeless or in a pool of his own blood. This thought alone made my body glitch, how will I live my life without the light of my life? This man is the reason why I am where I am today, my voice of reason, the only one made who managed to change my mind about marriage. after everything we have been through, he deserves my love.

I was still pacing up and down debating whether to call Maa Hlongwane when I heard his car outside, I ran to him as fast as I could and he was on a call telling whoever it was on the other line that he is now home and they will talk in the morning. Not to sound off or anything like that but this it the same phone I have been calling for the past few hours and every time it went straight to voicemail, now I am starting to get pissed because it is clear he has been ignoring me.

I went to him to ask what was wrong with his phone and I couldn’t believe my ears, “Not Now Angelina, I am really tired I had a long day some of us have jobs you know “ My voice went from concerned to angry within a second but before I could say anything I remembered what my mother used to tell me every time I complained about Mandla , “Vukati I ku tiyisela Nwananga “

I have been nothing short of perfect to this man, I gave him my all and this is the thank you I get? It is not my fault that I lost my job the company was not doing well and they had to retrench everyone.

I kept quiet and followed him back to the house, God knows I wanted to share with him my piece of mind but me being a good wife I kept quiet and went to sleep.

My husband was busy on his phone when I laid next to him crying and driving back through memory lane. I remembered the first day I saw him on campus after my failed presentation, he asked if I was well because I looked like I was lost and my face was pale. That was the day I fell in love with him.

The Following Morning

I was the first one to wake up, with a sore heart I made breakfast for the kids and Mandla, Fumani was staying with us while he complete his last semester at the university (my husband’s little brother). We couldn’t afford to pay for his apartment so Mandla asked him to move in with us and I did not have a problem with it because he is family.

After showering Mandla comes to greet me with a hug from behind which I found soothing and heart-warming, at least he still do things I love ❤️. “Avuxeni Nkata Mina” he said with that deep commanding voice and I lost it, I would be lying if I said this guy doesn’t know me I swear he knows what buttons to press for me to be excited and there i was smiling like a kid with a candy.

We cuddled and hugged as he prepared for work, I even forgot I was angry at him for coming back late and being rude last night. Aurora and Celesta came to join us, my babies are no longer babies they have grown, it is not long they were born now they have outgrown my hands, but never my heart.

Fumani did not eat breakfast with us, he left earlier to meet with his girlfriend, Nhloni.

I only met Nhloni once and I already do not like her, I personally think she is way too forward for him. Fumani is a family guy, way too collect and cool to be with someone like Nhloni but hey that is not my problem he is old enough to know what is right and wrong besides he is not my responsibility.

I cannot stop thinking about Neliswa ( husband’s baby momma) she hasn’t called to tell me how useless I am and for some strange reasons I can’t help but wonder what is keeping her busy. I Decided to Check her Facebook page and she looks happy and in a relationship which is good because it meant that she will leave mine alone.

Neliswa is Mandla’s side chick, 3 years in to marriage my husband decided to cheat on me with his PA and got her pregnant because he felt I couldn’t give him children. That was the darkest year of my life but that is a story for another day.

I have been busy with my salon lately, Since i am unemployed i have to do something with my life before i go crazy and my husband is sponsoring this adventure. I have to go meet with the suppliers in town and see if they are offering the things we need, i want this salon to have the best of everything.

After our meeting with the suppliers i went to buy some groceries for dinner ,I am still a wife and need to take care of Mandla and the kids they are still my babies. I bought my things and a bottle or wine and some cocktails for those rainy days and headed straight to the car i was tired, and you guys won’t believe who i saw, Mahlatse! ( jaw dropped)
